Passage: Acts 23:1-11
In today's text, we find the Apostle Paul standing firm on his convictions out of respect for God's word. At the same time, he exercises discernment and wisdom; living out Jesus' teaching to "be wise as serpents and innocent as doves" (Mt. 10:16). He uses everything at his disposal--his Roman citizenship, rhetorical skills, a righteous track record, his relational connections, and even his intellect--to participate in the mission of God. There is no shame in being smart or clever. There is also no shame in being stubborn about keeping God's law. You don't have to be legalistic or a pushover; you are called to have wisdom and discernment that helps you live a compelling and winsome life.
