Passage: Exodus 20:1-17

If God is the lawgiver, we are his image bearers; equipped and supported to reflect his goodness unto the world. If God is the lawgiver, he is for us and not against us; he desires us to flourish and helps us to do so through his law that points to Jesus. We are made to thrive, and we can experience true human flourishing as we learn to submit ourselves to God's perfect law through the power of Jesus and the help of the Holy Spirit. We may feel that the law is burdensome and restrictive because we fail at keeping the law (as the Israelites failed throughout the bible), but the law was always meant to be a life-giving, hopeful sign that causes us to run to the cross of Jesus to find grace, mercy, and strength to obey the law rather than to withdraw in shame and despair. As you obey God's law this week to experience flourishing in God's original design, know that the law invites you to trust God and experience a faithful relationship with him and his creation.
