The Excitement of Change at First Steps Preschool

02Feb, 2023

Hey Siri, please translate, “We are going to the gym to play” into Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, and Farsi.

Our community is changing and it is something to be excited about! Families enrolling their children at First Steps Preschool are brand new to South Delta, having moved in from all over the lower mainland and the world. The preschool is full of all the typical excitement and challenges that three- and four-year-old children bring. Adding new languages and cultural differences are increasing the excitement in our classroom. This school year at First Steps has challenged our teaching team in ways that we have not experienced before, and we are grateful for technology!

Since 1998, First Steps Preschool has welcomed children and their families into South Delta Baptist Church and provided a "Safe, Loving, and Fun" environment for children to learn and grow. We have continued to adapt our preschool to meet the changing needs of families, while remaining steadfast in our faith and our desire to provide a high-quality preschool program that is rooted in our love for Jesus. We are very fortunate to live in a community that has so many great options for preschools. We try to set our preschool apart from other programs by building a strong community within the preschool, by expanding the village that families need during this busy season of life to include other ministries and resources within our church. Encouraging a new family to attend the Tuesday ELL class, inviting a mom to a Moments for Ladies event, promoting an SDBC Kids event, or mentioning our pickleball ministry are just a few of the ways we try to connect families to SDBC. It is a joy to connect our preschool families to other ministries at our church.

As we look froward to starting our 25th school year in September, please pray for our preschool ministry. Pray for the children attending, their families, and the teaching team.
