As I was writing the title of this blog, I found myself in disbelief that it has already been eight years! Eight years since Starfish Pack South Delta started serving our community every week throughout the school year.
Starfish Pack is a ministry of South Delta Baptist Church where, every week during the school year, a team of volunteers from SDBC and our community packs bags full of food for those students facing food insecurities. The bags are delivered to local schools, where students take them home to provide food for the weekend. Many schools have food programs for students to access during the week, but that help is not accessible on the weekends—and so Starfish Pack tries to fill that gap. There are other chapters of Starfish Pack all over the Lower Mainland, and it is an amazing program that we are grateful to spearhead here in South Delta.
Even though it is summer, we are gearing up for September, and wow, have our numbers grown. We started with 10 students and are now up to almost 80, serving the two public high schools and nearly all the public elementary schools in South Delta. As the number of students have grown, so have the costs associated with providing this program. However, the Lord continues to be faithful, and our community continues to support this program.
Along with financial support, we are always looking for volunteer support! If you are interested in being a part of this team, we would love for you to get involved with Starfish Pack! We have volunteer spots open on Wednesday and Thursday mornings each week. If you are interested in helping out, we would love to tell you more about it! You can find out more by clicking the Starfish Pack South Delta link above or click the button below to email any questions to Jessie Morton, our Starfish Pack Coordinator. You can also stop by the Spotlight Table on Sunday for more information or to sign up to help.
