Passage: Luke 24:13-35

In Luke 24:13-35, we read about an encounter unique to the gospel of Luke that captures one of Jesus’ appearances after his resurrection. It involves two of Jesus’ disciples who, following the events of Jesus’ death on the cross and subsequent burial, leave Jerusalem full of sadness and in grief. They had hoped Jesus was the one to redeem Israel. His death left them hopeless. They didn't completely understand God’s ultimate redemption plan. However, Jesus seeks and pursues them and what starts off as a journey of sadness and grief ends with these two disciples transformed and never looking back. They move forward full of resurrection hope.

This encounter reveals how Jesus, as he seeks and pursues us, moves us from a place of unbelief to belief opening our hearts to see him and to know him. This involves a change of heart, mind, and soul. When we say transformational encounter, we mean everything about us. When we choose to follow Jesus as Saviour and Lord, we gain an entirely new way of operating in this world. We move forward in life full of resurrection hope. And this is something our world needs now, more than ever.
