On October 18, we will be launching a new sermon series called, The Return of the King, exploring and engaging in faithful exegesis of 1 & 2 Thessalonians. These two letters in the bible are the Apostle Paul's letters to the church in Thessalonica in the mid-first century CE, where Paul commends the church for their faithfulness despite the real challenges and persecutions that they face, and encourages them to continue to live faithfully unto the Lord Jesus. These letters give us insight into the challenges that the Macedonian churches faced in their early days, and they strengthen the readers' confidence in the Lord as we see God carrying them through with astounding hope and faith.
In this series, we will learn how to live as a faithful disciple of King Jesus in this sin-marred world. We will examine how the Thessalonian church lived in their present while being informed by the coming Kingdom of God that will be ushered into our reality through the returning King. How can we live in our present day in light of The Return of the King, when he will overthrow injustice and reign with perfect righteousness? How do we make sense of and endure suffering in light of the returning King? How do we view the world in which we live in light of the returning King? How do we understand the role of the church in light of the returning King?
Let's explore this together. May God equip and prepare the preachers that will be his mouthpiece throughout this series, and may he speak to us clearly and powerfully. May our hearts also be prepared to receive his word with humility, joy, and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.
