Passage: Galatians 4:8-20

Galatians 4:8-20 // In Galatians 4:8-20, the Apostle Paul returns to what has been a running theme in Galatians. He is incredibly saddened and deeply grieved that the Galatians have turned back to their old pre-Christ way of life. Up until this point in his letter, Paul has addressed this issue several times using different tactics. Now, he makes an appeal on the basis of their personal relationship. Paul's personal appeal puts the gospel on full display. He teaches once again that when we accept Christ as Saviour and Lord we are saved and enjoy a life of gospel freedom in right relationship with God. We don't look back to our old way of life, but rather move forward, being shaped more and more each day like Christ, as disciples. This text also reinforces the importance of being a part of a faith community. How in the context of Christian community built on a foundation of love, we hold each other accountable and spur each other on to grow and remain firm in our faith.
