Passage: Hebrews 7:1-10

Who is this mysterious man named Melchizedek? In this sermon, we explore what it means to have a priest-king in the Order of Melchizedek. The recipients of this letter to the Hebrews were going through a season of severe suffering, and they needed to know that there is a king who is powerful enough to have the ability to save them and also a priest who is compassionate enough to actually care to save them. In Jesus Christ, we have a better priest-king who is both able and wanting to save us. He cares deeply about us; so much so that he dove into the suffering with us as he put on flesh. Moreover, his resurrection shows that he is powerful enough to defeat even death once for all. His eternal priesthood means that we have a covenant that will endure; we have a saviour who will not change his mind or fail us. We have a faithful priest-king that we can trust and this will enable us to be truly authentic and vulnerable with him. Go all in on Jesus the better priest-king!
