Passage: Matthew Matt. 20:1-16
In Matthew 20:1-16, Jesus tells the Parable of the Labourers in the Vineyard in response to a revealing question from Peter: “We have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?” Through this surprising parable, Jesus challenges his disciples to see that God's kingdom operates very differently from the kingdoms of this world. The generosity of the vineyard owner reveals the incredible grace and goodness of God, while the reaction of the labourers exposes the danger of comparison, envy, and calculating what we think we deserve. As 21st-century disciples of Jesus, this parable challenges our thinking about fairness, merit, comparison, and ultimately what it means to follow Jesus.
