Below are some reflections, through the medium of poetry, on the power of Stephen Ministry.
Walking alongside someone who is hurting
Is a healing journey
It is hard to be vulnerable
It is risky to open up and trust
Vulnerability is honest
It is courageous
It is freeing
And it is necessary
It is a gift in this fast-paced, distracted world of opinions demanding to be heard
It can be liberating to be seen, to be understood, to feel accepted
In moments of crisis, the burden is heavy, life is taking its toll
And yet, we were never meant to suffer alone
Life is messy
There is nothing we can do to make God love us more
There is nothing we can do that will make God love us less
God loves us
It surprises me that I have still to fully comprehend this love of Jesus
Sacrificial
Giving
Necessary, and out of love for us
What do we actually have control over?
What and who can we truly count on?
It is definitely not in myself or in my circumstances
Our contexts change and there are no simple answers
There is a better and healthier place that we can be in
There is hope and it will take time
An often long and necessary process
Painful and healing, together
In the messiness
God loves and forgives
Jesus carries and strengthens
His spirit is present and restores
Thank you, Lord Jesus
In your presence, in your saving grace, in the kindness of your people
I did not know what I needed
Until I accepted some of your limitless love for me
Jesus comes alongside us so that we can come alongside you
Life is difficult
God is compassionate and freely available to each of us
There is a hopeful way forward
