It is Thanksgiving Day on Sunday, and at our church, we have a beautiful tradition of giving beyond our normal tithes and offerings to express our gratitude for all of God's good provisions in our lives. As it says in Acts 20:35, God teaches us that it is a greater blessing to give than to receive, which means giving helps us to realize the true meaning of loving sacrificially as Jesus loved us—best demonstrated by his death on the cross. An opportunity to emulate Jesus' love and to obediently follow his beautiful command to give and to serve others is something that we ought to do joyfully and intentionally. So, we want to give you that opportunity to give and serve, and to reflect on all that God has given us so that we would give out of a profound appreciation for God's gifts.
As we announced on Sunday, our Thanksgiving Offering this year will go toward The Christmas Table. We started this event last year because we wanted to live out our goal of Radical Hospitality & Meaningful Connections by inviting people who may be alone for Christmas for various reasons to a family lunch on Christmas Day. We served around 80 people with a full turkey and festive meal, Christmas crackers, hot apple cider, fun games, handwritten cards, gifts, and the whole nine yards. The event was so well received that we decided to bring it back this year.
When you give toward the Thanksgiving Offering in the month of October by clearly designating your gift as "Thanksgiving Offering," we will use those funds to serve those who are alone for Christmas this year. This is an amazing opportunity to practice our vision to Love Like Jesus. We hope you have a great Thanksgiving weekend and take advantage of the opportunity to reflect meaningfully on what God has given you this year. Happy Thanksgiving!
