Passage: Matthew Matt. 13:10-17
As we launch this series on the parables of Jesus, we examine the genre of Jesus’ parables and why he chose to speak in parables. The sinful, rebellious world is bent on ignoring God’s Word and would not listen. Thus, the parables are employed to awaken hearers from their ways of rebellion and turn in repentance toward God. Jesus’ parables are intended to cause us to stop in our tracks, reconsider our sinful ways, and turn to God to live by his Word—it’s about our hearts being transformed. They reveal to us the truth of God’s kingdom, and it is truly a blessing to receive this gift. May his parables accomplish in us what God intends for us.
