Passage: Matthew Matt. 13:1-9, Matthew Matt. 13:18-23
In this famous parable, Jesus teaches us that his word sown in the hearts of his disciples will bear fruit, but the word sown along the path, on rocky ground, and among thorns will fail to produce fruit—wasting the seed invested in them. The lesson we ought to learn is clear: We need to be like the seed that fell on good soil--producing hundredfold, sixtyfold, and thirtyfold. How can we use this parable to carefully examine the obstacles to growth that we experience in our faith journey, but at the same time, recognize the confidence that we can have in the Sower who will bring about growth and a bountiful harvest in his faithful people?
