Passage: Ezekiel 13:1-23
The false prophets of Ezekiel's days were only interested in their selfish gain and led people away from God's will. They told the people what they wanted to hear and took advantage of them rather than speaking truth. In Ezekiel's time and ours alike, these kinds of people are toxic in the community, which is why God is moving against these false prophets and committed to setting his people free from the snares of these deceivers. The ideal prophet provided as a better alternative in the Book of Ezekiel is not Ezekiel himself or Jeremiah, or any other prophet; it is Jesus the true and better Prophet. Jesus is the better prophet who proclaims truth and encourages the righteous and calls the sinner to repentance so that they may be truly restored to newness of life in him. He is the one who courageously gives of his own life to protect his people rather than taking advantage of others for his own gain. He is truly the better prophet. Praise be to God that he sent us his Son to deliver us from the snares of the false prophets and made us his kingdom agents to be aligned with God’s will by the energizing and empowering of his Holy Spirit—the Spirit of Truth.
