Passage: John 4:1-26

In this message, we learn how Jews and Samaritans alike were genuinely interested in purification—being in good standing with God. Perhaps contrary to Jewish readers’ expectations, Jesus insists that Nicodemus (a Jewish religious leader) and the Samaritan woman, who is known to be a sinner, both need Jesus the Messiah to be washed away of sin and brought to eternal life. Jesus, as the living water, washes us so that we never have to wash again. We are forgiven our sins, justified, given the status of being righteous all because of Jesus’ work on the cross, payment for our sins, and resurrection. It is by God’s grace that we are made right with him and welcomed into eternal life, and it is by grace that we are called to bring this good news to the ends of the earth!
