Passage: John 21:20-25

In this last message of the Gospel According to John series, we learn that each of us have been given unique resources, experiences, and circumstances that help us faithfully participate in the mission on which God has called us. We also reflect on what "bearing witness" looks like. John bore witness in his own way that is different from the Synoptic gospels and the ministry of Peter. For him, living for Jesus and being a witness to the amazing works of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was his mission--his life's most important work. We may not be John or Peter, or an expert literary storyteller, but we are all storytellers of the greatest story of all--the good news of Jesus Christ who came to redeem us from our sins by his wonderful life, death, and resurrection; a story of God invading our sinfulness with his righteousness; our darkness being conquered by the Light of the world; our world being rescued by the sacrificial King who lays down his life for sinners; the mighty God who reconciles us to himself so that we may enjoy him forever. We tell this story through our words, actions, and our way of life. Telling the gospel story is not a job reserved for professional storytellers; it is our mission; our lives' most important work.
