Don't Sing Songs to a Heavy Heart is written by Dr. Ken Haugk, one of the co-founders of Stephen Ministry. Dr. Haugk writes about his own experiences dealing with grief after his wife's three-year fight with cancer and her resulting death. In addition to his own experiences, Dr. Haugk summarizes the experiences shared by many other people he and his team interviewed and surveyed. The resulting book acknowledges that it is often difficult to see others struggle and know how to best respond, but then gives seven simple and effective ways that we can show our care and support.
If your heart hurts for someone going through grief, loss, illness, or other suffering, this book will help you know when even simple acts of love and caring can make a huge difference in that person's life. Sometimes we are afraid to add further hurt or stress to people, but this book assures us that we can share the burden as we care for others. The book is brief and easy to read and has provided me with excellent tools and ways of helping those who suffer.
