The start of a new school year and new routines means that Starfish Pack South Delta is up and running for another year. We are excited to serve our local community with this program that provides backpacks full of groceries every week to families in need. This helps families eat well over the weekend and start the week strong on Mondays. In each backpack there are breakfast items, a quick lunch option, ingredients for a family meal, snacks, and a few pieces of fresh produce.
We currently pack 68 bags for 12 schools across South Delta on a weekly basis, and all this is possible because of the amazing group of people who serve on this team. We have 20 dedicated volunteers who pack backpacks and then pick the empty ones up from schools to be reused each week. The biggest thank you to this team who is the heart of this program.
We are also immensely grateful for our community partners who provide drivers to deliver the full bags and provide generous financial support. For example, this year, the Delta School Board blessed the program with $15,000! A big thank you to them and all the different groups in our community that have donated over the years, as they have kept this program running and growing!
What drew my family and me to SDBC years ago when looking for a home church were programs such as Starfish Pack; a significantly impactful program that continuously supports families in our local community. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to administrate this program and serve our community in this way. Thank you for your support of Starfish Pack South Delta.
