On September 13th, we will be launching a four-week sermon series called, Radically Generous: Joyful Obligation. We are excited to study God's word and learn what it says about our relationship with money, and more importantly, how our financial practices reflect our relationship with God.
Have you ever wondered what tithing is? Is it about giving a literal 10% of our income? Should it be 10% of gross income or net income? Should it be given weekly, monthly, annually, or does it even matter? Does our offering only count when given to a local church, or does supporting missionaries and parachurches count? What does it mean to be a cheerful giver? Isn't it an obligation for Christians to give? These are some questions we've been asked over the years. In this series, we hope to answer these questions and much deeper questions about how our financial practices help us grow closer to God.
The bible teaches that our financial stewardship is a means to frame our relationship with God in the proper context and to form our hearts toward him. In that sense, financial stewardship is a deeply spiritual practice—it's about spiritual formation (or discipleship). Please pray that this series will move our hearts to draw closer to God and to honour him through a tangible expression of worship.
