Paul Is on Sabbatical Leave

15Jan, 2026

We have been communicating this for the last few months, so I hope this doesn't catch anyone by surprise, but I am beginning my sabbatical leave this week. In fact, by the time you read this article, I will have already started the three-month leave, and I will be back in mid-April.

Thank you, again, for giving me this opportunity to take a step away from ministry at our church to focus on my personal growth as a disciple of Jesus and a servant leader of our faith community. Our elders and pastoral team strongly believe in life-long learning and healthy rhythms of rest, and this opportunity provides an intentional time for me to learn, grow, and rest from the normal routines of pastoral ministry.

While I trust that stepping away from the daily routines of pastoral ministry will give me a chance to recharge emotionally and psychologically, I will be in full-time student mode for the next three months, working on the completion of my master's degree and honing my skills as a theologian and pastor.

My sabbatical leave has been approved by the elders because we have a competent and amazing team of staff and volunteer leaders at our church who will take on my responsibilities while I am away. We have put together a solid plan, and we trust that you are in good hands. I firmly believe that our team will propel the ministry of our church forward while I am away. If you require pastoral assistance during my leave, please reach out to our team by clicking the button below.

I will miss serving you as your pastor for the next three months, but I also look forward to participating with you as a member of SDBC during this time.

Your partner in the gospel work,
Paul

Pastor Paul is currently on sabbatical and will return mid-April 2026.

Paul joined South Delta Baptist Church in 2013 and has fallen in love with the church since then. He transitioned into the lead pastor role in late 2017, and has been blessed to serve Jesus and the community of South Delta alongside SDBC. He has a strong passion for preaching God’s word and living a missional life empowered by the love of Christ and the Holy Spirit. Outside of ministry, Paul enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife Sarah, and their children Nathan and Christianne.
