Last week, our kids were On the Move! We spent five full days exploring, creating, learning, playing, and building relationships together; and looking back, there is so much to thank God for.
We kicked off Day 1 with a visit to OWL (Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society) right here in Ladner, where campers got an up-close look at some incredible birds of prey and learned about the work that goes into caring for them. From there, we were generously hosted by a local blueberry farmer for an afternoon outside together. Both activities helped the kids learn how to be good stewards of God's creation. It was a great start to the week!
Day 2 brought us back to the church for Baking and Science Camp. Campers made and decorated sugar cookies, created popsicles (which we enjoyed during sports camp), and assembled mini fruit tarts using the blueberries picked from the farm and blackberries picked at the church. After lunch, we traded our aprons for scientist hats! Campers designed and tested egg-drop creations, made galaxy jars, and even got a mini lesson on 3D printing from one of our leaders.
On Day 3, we headed to Fort Langley, where campers tried flint and steel, went gold panning, and learned about the fort's history and how British Columbia came to be. Then it was off to Extreme Air Park, where we jumped until we couldn't jump anymore, climbed towers, and jumped into the foam pit under the blacklight. It was the perfect mix of learning, adventure, and a whole lot of energy!
Day 4 was Sports and Art Camp. We started with kickball before putting our campers to the test in our Camp Olympics, full of games, challenges, teamwork, and cheering. In the afternoon, we started Art Camp with a campfire scene paint-along before moving into stations with air-dry clay, Shrinky Dinks, watercolour postcards, and mini beaded potted plants. It was so fun to see each camper create something completely their own.
We wrapped up Day 5 with a trip to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery and an afternoon of bowling. One especially meaningful part of our final day was having our Cannery tour led by a member of our own church! It was a special reminder of how God can use people within our church family to invest in the next generation.
A week like On the Move takes an incredible group of people willing to give their time, energy, and gifts. We are so thankful for every volunteer who served throughout the week. Whether you led an activity, cleaned up a mess, encouraged a camper, prepared snacks, or jumped in wherever needed, you helped make this week possible.
There were so many ways I saw God moving throughout this week, but watching the relationships that formed throughout the week was definitely a highlight. It was really special to step back and watch our leaders intentionally invest in our campers and see kids become more comfortable and connected as the week went on. It reminded me that the activities may be what bring kids through the doors, but the relationships and opportunities to show them God's love are what make weeks like this so meaningful.
As we close the book on On the Move 2026, there are already good things on the horizon for On the Move 2027, and we can't wait to see where God takes us next!
