This week, Pastor Paul introduced us to "Mission Week"—a movement that calls our church family to participate in God's mission in a practical way. We have designated October 24th to October 30th as our Mission Week. Please choose one day during this week to invite someone that you have been wanting to share Jesus with for a lunch or dinner at your home. If you are not comfortable with having people over at your home right now, you can still participate in creative ways like inviting someone for a socially distanced walk or a virtual hang out. We're not asking you to open the bible to share the gospel story or lead people through "the prayer." God may grant you that opportunity during this week and that would be fantastic—if this is the case with you, may God speak through you and be with you as you share Jesus. However, for the most of us, we may not have the opportunity during this first get together to share the gospel explicitly in an effective way. Don't force it; trust in God's timing.
Our intentionality in inviting someone into our homes and into our lives with the desire to share Jesus with them one day is what we believe God is calling us to do. You don't have to cook a fancy meal or have the house spotless. Be authentic and genuine, and invite others to share life with you. Have a great time and listen well, and don't forget to pray. Mission Week is about a month away; you have plenty of time to pray specifically for people you'll be inviting and for others in our church who are participating in Mission Week.
If you are concerned about making your friends, neighbours, relatives, or colleagues feel like they're just a "project" for you, please watch the video below of an excerpt from Pastor Paul's sermon by clicking the button below. He highlights how we can be honest and authentic without making others a project.
How powerful would it be to know that our whole church is committing to invite at least one person or family to our home to build relationship so that we would one day be able to share Christ with them? How awesome would it be to know that there would be hundreds or even a thousand people invited into the homes of our church family with missional intentionality? And how powerful would it be to know that we are praying for this Mission Week together as a church for the next month as we invite our friends, colleagues, relatives, and neighbours? May God be glorified and help us to bear fruit—whether in a month, a year, or many years from now. We trust God for the fruit and we labour joyfully as we participate in his amazing mission to save and redeem.
