Hey Church family,
We wanted to send a quick update from Mexico as we've reached the halfway point of our trip—and what a full, meaningful, and joy-filled few days it has been.
Our journey began bright and early Friday morning with a 5:30AM flight out of Abbotsford. We made our way through Calgary and into San Diego (with only four people needing to do some light airport sprinting), and spent the afternoon and evening enjoying some great food, a small theme park, and a much-needed siesta after the early start.
On Saturday morning, we crossed the border into Mexico and travelled safely to Vicente Guerrero, where we'll be based all week. The weather has been incredible—mid-20s, dry, and breezy—honestly perfect conditions for everything we're doing.
Sunday was a really special day. We attended church with our team leading worship that morning, spent some time hiking together, and wrapped up the day with some of the best tacos we've ever had.
Monday kicked off our full schedule of ministry. Each morning, our team splits into four different work sites:
- a group serving at Oasis' main campus working on facility upgrades—shade canopies, roofing repairs, siding, painting, and more;
- a team partnering with a local church installing sound absorption panels and painting their building;
- a group supporting a house-building ministry by preparing sites for teams coming later this summer; and
- a team serving at a women and children's transition home, helping refresh a space for a new family arriving soon.
Each of these ministries is doing incredible work in the community, and it has been a privilege for our team to come alongside and support them.
In the afternoons, we shift into VBS at two Oasis sites (our main ministry partner here). We're running a program focused on the miracles of Jesus, and each day includes snacks, games, crafts, bible teaching, and testimonies from our team. And of course—the highlight—our derby car races. Kids get to design, decorate, and race their own cars, and it has quickly become the most anticipated part of the day.
It's been a FULL few days in the best way. Our team has bonded deeply, stepped into new challenges, and experienced God in powerful ways through our morning gatherings, daily devotionals, evening debriefs, and the stories that are already beginning to come out of this trip.
Thank you so much for praying for us and supporting us. It truly means more than you know.
As we look ahead, we have two more days of work projects and VBS, a youth night with over 100 students, and a staff appreciation night where we get to serve and celebrate the forty Oasis staff and volunteers.
We can't wait to share more stories soon.
From Jacob, Ben, and the mission team
