Meet the Harders

26Jul, 2023

Over the past nine months, seven people have been on a search team looking for a new Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries. During this search, we have had a fantastic group of leaders helping run several of our youth programs at SDBC. Kirsty Wilson helped coordinate and lead our Sunday morning pre-teen program called Flipt, Bowen and Hannah Bakken, along with Kaitlyn Shipowich and Aaron Parker, helped coordinate and lead Gap on Sunday nights for our high school group, and Pastor Jordan helped coordinate and lead Gap Jr. on Thursday nights for our pre-teen group.

We have been blessed with a solid team during our search, but like any search, our goal has been to find the right person for our director role. We are thrilled to announce that we have hired a new Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries: Jacob Harder.

Meet Jacob, Madi, and Winnie Harder. They are originally from Kamloops and have lived in South Vancouver the past two years while Jacob finishes his Master of Divinity program at Regent College. Here are some fun facts about the Harders:

  • Wedding Date: August 24, 2019.
  • Winnie’s birthdate: April 12, 2023 (Age: 3 months).
  • Favourite activities, hobbies, and interests: We enjoy going for walks, playing games, and eating good (gluten-free) food. Individually, Madi enjoys reading and gardening in her spare time. Jacob enjoys playing/creating games, cooking, and playing/listening to music.
  • When you have free time, what do people often find you doing: People would probably find us either adventuring to a new place to go walking/hiking or enjoying a lazy day at home depending on the week. There's also a good chance people would find us eating because we both love to eat!
  • What you love most about ministry: I love getting to journey with others in their walk with God and witness them encounter God's heart for them, especially as it is captured in the biblical story. This makes preaching and teaching one of my greatest joys in ministry.
  • Anything else you'd love to relay to the church: We tend to be a bit introverted, so we're not always the first to initiate, but we love connecting with others, especially getting together with people for dinner and board games. We are really excited and hopeful about becoming immersed in the community at South Delta and getting to know the people that make it such a warm, welcoming place.

Jacob will be coming on board at the end of August, but you will most likely see the Harders throughout July and August on Sunday mornings. Make sure to say hi and welcome them! Jacob will be starting at 25 hours per week, primarily focusing on Gap Jr. and Gap as he works to complete his master's degree program at the end of April 2024. Please pray for the Harders over the coming weeks as we approach the end of August and Jacob joins our staff.
