It has been six months since the Korean Ministry launched at SDBC. Through all the love and support from our SDBC family, the Korean community is being established as a radically hospitable and meaningfully connecting community. I would like to provide an update on how we are doing.
Currently, we have three areas of focus in this ministry: fellowship, care, and education.
- Fellowship: We gather regularly on Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons to "exhort one another" as we learned in our Hebrews sermon series. We love to gather around the table to share a meal and enjoy a beautiful time of fellowship; sharing how God is leading us in his goodness and discerning God's will for us together. The word is spreading that there is an active Korean Ministry at SDBC, so we are continuing to experience newcomers and visitors checking out our ministry.
- Care: We have built a stable community, which is very important to people who are studying abroad in a foreign country or trying to find a new community as an immigrant. A stable and healthy community is important because foreigners can be especially susceptible to experiencing loneliness and depression when not engaged in a healthy community. We support one another to pursue physical, emotional, and spiritual health as we love one another in Christ. Children play together and have a place where they feel they belong, which has also been very helpful in building community.
- Education: Through the ELL class, we help people with a fundamental need to acquire language skills. Our ELL class equips people with both language and cultural skills to adapt to the Canadian culture. This class has helped many people acquire an increased understanding of our culture, and it has also given us an opportunity to share the love of Jesus Christ in tangible and meaningful ways. We also have bible studies that enhance our vitality as a community. We study God's word and train in biblical living on a regular basis.
Please continue to pray for our ministry as we strive to Love Like Jesus and glorify our God. This Sunday, we are excited to serve our SDBC family as we provide an authentic Korean meal to our church after the service. This is a meaningful time of fellowship for us, and we are so grateful to participate in this way. We have received much support from our church family. Now, we have the opportunity to serve you! We are overjoyed and we hope you will come out to enjoy this meal together!
