Looking for something fun to do on Friday nights this January? Come experience Friday Night Pickleball—a relaxed, welcoming space to connect, get moving, and enjoy time with other adults from South Delta Baptist Church. Whether you've never played before or you already enjoy the game, this is a great opportunity to try something new, make friends, feel at home, and discover the impact our pickleball ministry is having in our community.
South Delta Baptist Church has been involved with North America's fastest-growing sport since January 2015. What began with eight members of our church getting some exercise, having fun, and building community has grown into a vibrant outreach ministry. Today, our pickleball program includes 16 weekly sessions and welcomes approximately 150-175 players each week, most of whom have no church or faith affiliation.
We are inviting our SDBC family to join us in our mission: "Building authentic relationships through pickleball while reflecting the love of Christ." At the heart of this ministry is relationship-building—living out our faith both on and off the court and, with the Holy Spirit's leading, lovingly introducing our community to the gospel.
Through this ministry, we have also been able to give back in tangible ways, donating over $34,000 to local charities over the years. This year alone, we have contributed $7,000 to organizations such as Extreme Weather Shelter, WINGS Women's Shelter, Share Family & Community Services, Pony Pals, Step Forward, KidSport, and BC Guide Dogs. During the month of December, all fees collected for our public pickleball sessions are being donated to the South Delta Food Bank—radical hospitality in action.
This January, four Friday Night Pickleball sessions will be set aside especially for our church family:
- Never played before? Join us for an introductory beginner lesson where you'll learn the basics of the game.
- Some experience, but want a refresher? Mentored courts will be available, offering encouragement and guidance as you play.
- Experienced players? Enjoy games with others from our church family in a dedicated session.
