We're just one week away from the kick-off of our summer youth calendar! While we introduced our events a month ago, now that they're right around the corner, we want to spotlight the event we're most excited about—something brand new we're calling Friday Fanfares.
You might have seen the youth summer calendar and thought, "That looks great for the youth and youth leaders, but it's not really for me." But Friday Fanfares IS for you! It's a chance to be part of how God is reaching the people in our city, by helping them experience the love of Jesus through simple acts of hospitality.
Every Friday during the summer around 5PM, a crowd of parents and kids gathers in our church parking lot, waiting to pick up their students returning from Camp Qwanoes. Our goal for Friday Fanfares is to have a team of people of all ages ready to welcome them with cold drinks and snacks, warm conversations, and fun games for the kids. Many of these parents have no church connection, and we want them to get a glimpse of Jesus through our care, our kindness, and our presence. We'll be wearing our new SDBC t-shirts to show them that this is who we are: a church family that practices radical hospitality and meaningful connections.
We really want you—and your whole family—to be part of this. So bring your own kids and other family members and come enjoy the fun and snacks together—what a great way to teach your kids the joy of serving! And maybe you can only come for one Friday. That's great—come once! Maybe you're not sure because it's right around dinner time. Bring your dinner along! Maybe you can't come on Fridays at all. That's ok! You can still help out by donating some homemade cookies for one or more weeks.
Here's the point: this is a simple, joyful, meaningful way to love our neighbours like Jesus. And we don't want you to miss it.
So here's your next step: pull out your calendar and find a couple Fridays that might work. Then, stop by the Spotlight Table this Sunday. Our fantastic Summer Youth Intern, Troy Weatherly, will be there ready to sign you up. You can also click the button below to email Troy directly.
We can't wait to see what God will do through Friday Fanfares this summer, and we hope you'll be part of it.
