Passage: Ezekiel Ezek. 47:13-23
Ezekiel 47:13-23 continues Ezekiel’s grand vision of restoration and renewal for the people of Israel. The vision has moved outward from the new temple, to the life-giving river flowing from it, and now to the renewed promised land. This vision is good news not only for those in exile, but also for us as modern-day followers of Jesus. In Christ, we are sons and daughters of the Most High, kingdom citizens with all the privileges and inheritance that citizenship brings. None of this is earned; it is the free gift of God through relationship with Jesus, who saves us from sin and all it brings: slavery, bondage, and death, and offers freedom, relationship, and new life. Verses 13-23 shed light on what life in God’s renewed promised land will entail: peace, harmony, rest, and provision as kingdom citizens.
