Worshipping as Family

18Sep, 2019

Jason, and his daughters, Abby and Mary, serve on the worship team together at SDBC. It's a unique experience, one that has richly blessed them as a family. Read below to hear their stories:

Jason:
Our family began attending SDBC in September of 2014. At our previous church, I had been involved in the music ministry since I was a teenager, and while my family was encouraging me to serve, for some reason, I thought I needed a break from ministry. But that was me talking, and not the Lord. It wasn't only my family that had been prompting me. After a few months, I contacted the leadership of the worship team, had an audition, and got involved. I have been serving with this ministry since January 2015.

Soon after becoming a team member, I realized that was where my heart was called to be, and, since joining, my daughters have become team members as well, and I am so thankful and blessed to minister with them on Sundays. It is an amazing thing to be used together in ministry and a great testimony of the Lord's grace in my life.

Mary:
Similar to my Dad, I did not think that I wanted to get involved at SDBC right away when I first walked through the doors. However, God definitely had a different plan for me. He helped me face my crippling fear of being in front of people on a stage and He placed in me a passion to lead people to the Throne of God in worship. Being able to lead worship with my dad and my sister is an amazing gift. I am so thankful for them and I am so thankful for the SDBC worship team.

Abby:
I joined the worship team at SDBC a few years ago. My Dad and sister had been involved for a while but I had held back because part of me felt like it was clearly more their area, than mine. But Mary encouraged me to be brave and give it a try because she knew how much I loved playing on a worship team and praising God through song. I've been involved ever since.

Musical worship has always been very near to my heart—I love that it is so deeply personal, a time to sing praises directly to the Lord, while also being such a beautiful time together as a congregation. There is no better sound to me than hearing the voices of hundreds of God's people all singing His praises together and I love being able to play a small part in leading the congregation in that song.
