Is This for Real?

25Apr, 2024

We live in a world where it's getting harder and harder to know what's real and true. AI can now make fake things look very real, and social media filters can make a person look very different! And when it comes to figuring out the really big things in life, like what this world is all about and what my place in it is, it is VERY confusing!

This summer, we're going to help children and youth see what REAL life is all about – we call it "life like no other" at Camp Qwanoes. And at the heart of it all is an amazing love – a love that only comes from Jesus and is available for everyone. Sadly, so many kids today don't know that life. Instead, the life they know is one filled with all the brokenness, confusion, and lostness that is part of a life separate from God.

And this is why SDBC has their camp! Camp is such an ideal place for God's love to break through into lives, to put faith into action, to make a difference, to grow as a leader, to gain positive life-skills and friendships…and to experience a taste of life the way God intends it to be.

Last summer, a counsellor shared, "One of my boys accepted God at the fireside. I spoke to him afterwards and I asked him why he made the decision. He said, 'I never knew what Jesus was really like," and he started crying."

Camp is a special place that helps kids come up close and personal with God in the midst of his beautiful creation. Campers encounter the truth and love of Jesus and it changes them. And we do this together with YOU. SDBC is one of the owners of Camp Qwanoes, and together, we're seeking to love kids to life like no other!

Last summer saw our largest camp attendance since 2019 with 4136 campers, and we're hoping for even more this summer. Hundreds and hundreds of children and youth made decisions to follow God last summer. There are so many ways you can be involved! Kitchen helpers, dish crew, maintenance, activity leaders, cabin counsellors, nurses, doctors, drivers, builders…come for a week or all summer. Consider joining our prayer team, or help prepare the camp before the summer, or invite kids to come. Join a leadership program, which starts for grade 9 and up. Bring your family to a Family Retreat, Family Work Weekend, or come to our Open House on June 8th. Maybe you could help families who are not able to afford to send their child to camp by giving to our campership fund, or give to a project fund.

Qwanoes summer 2024 – it's not just a dream or just a good movie. We're inviting campers to discover something so amazing it may just blow their minds. Too good to be true? Only one way to find out! Come on - life like no other awaits!

Camp Qwanoes will be at the Spotlight Table on Sunday. Make sure to stop by and say hello or ask any questions you may have.
