God desires us to live in community. If you look at creation, you see that God created a man and a woman who would multiply and fill the earth as a community of God’s creation. If you look at the early church, you can see that Jesus wanted us to live in a community where we, as brothers and sisters in Christ, love one another as Jesus loved us.
SDBC firmly believes that community groups are highly important to the health of the church because Jesus calls us to walk alongside one another as we all endeavour to follow Christ. Jesus demonstrated this in the calling of the twelve disciples. He chose a community of followers to do His work. When we go through joyous moments of our lives, we need to celebrate with our community. When we walk through the darkest times of our lives, we need to support one another and lean on one another in a Christ-centred community. This is what God desires.
That is why we're investing more into our community groups this fall. We want everyone to be a part of a community group and invest in living a Christ-centred community life. We want our community groups to be a place where people can find community, connect deeply with one another, and grow and mature in faith together. After all, how can we obey Jesus' command to love one another as He loved us when we're not living in community? Let’s build a strong community that is able to welcome everyone in South Delta to join us and experience the power and hope of Jesus. This is how we honour Jesus who gives hope to all.
