Landon has volunteered in a number of areas over the years, including Awana, men's ministry, and floor hockey. After taking up pickleball just over a year ago, he started volunteering with SDBC's pickleball ministry. As a host for the ministry, his job is to help run the growing number of sessions and interact with the players, most of whom are from the community and do not attend our church.
"What struck me immediately about the game of pickleball was how social and ageless it is. There are opportunities to get to know people aged 18-82, even as you are playing the game! At SDBC there are sessions for all different skill levels and competitiveness. This allows people to select a session that is most comfortable for them. Rotating playing partners throughout the session provide the opportunity to get to know everyone.
I got involved in hosting because of the opportunity to expose people to SDBC and, more importantly, the love of Jesus (Matthew 22:39). 'Friendship ministries' like pickleball provide concrete opportunities to get to know people in our community, reflect our church community in a positive light (Matthew 5:13-16), and invite people out to other ministry specific functions (such as the men's prayer breakfast). Many players comment about how wonderful the pickleball community at SDBC is and how different the people are. I attribute this to the faithfulness of our pickleball committee and the many excellent hosts, as well as how they witness to all the different players. I love serving in this ministry!"
Please pray for our pickleball committee and the hosts who come out each week for this ministry. This is a wonderful opportunity to Love Like Jesus as we host our community during the week.
