It's been several years since our church has taken part in a cross-cultural missions trip. But this spring, that is about to change. As you may have heard on Sunday, our youth group will be going on a missions trip to Vicente Guerrero, Baja California Mexico this coming spring break. Together with the youth group at SouthRidge Fellowship Baptist Church, we'll be partnering with an organization called Oasis in Baja Inc. to help run after-school programs for children, complete work projects, and share the love of Jesus with all those we encounter.
One of the reasons I am so excited to bring our youth on this missions trip is because of what God has done in my own life through missions trips. I went on my first missions trip when I was 14 years old. At the time, I was attending church but I did not see God as an active part of my life. I felt cynical and hopeless as I sought to find meaning and belonging in places that were not ultimately satisfying. But God met me in a powerful way on this missions trip. God used my fellow team members to show me that I was a part of God's family. And he used my experiences of serving and connecting with disadvantaged families to show me that I was a part of God's mission of bringing life to the world. It was this very trip that led me to pursue a life in full-time ministry and to seek out opportunities to be a part of God's mission in my everyday life.
The impact God made on my life through this missions trip is something I want everyone else to experience. I believe God wants to use this upcoming missions trip to grow our hearts for his world and his mission. So I want to invite you to prayerfully consider how God might be calling you to be involved—whether by going or praying. This trip is primarily for students, but we're also looking for parents and other adults with unique skills and a heart to serve. For anyone interested in learning more about the trip, even if you don't intend to go on it, we're holding an interest meeting this Sunday at 11:45AM in the Youth Center. You'll be able to enjoy refreshments, ask questions, hear stories from past trips, and learn how you can be part of what God is doing through this trip. We hope you'll come and be encouraged by the amazing ways God is at work in our world and how he might be inviting you to join him.
