Easter is a sacred and significant time in the life of a Christian. We gather to reflect on and celebrate what is at the very core of our faith: the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. 1 John 4:10, "In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” Easter reminds us that our hope is not wishful thinking, but a living reality grounded in the finished work of Jesus. Through his death and resurrection, God has made a way for new life: forgiveness, restoration, and a relationship with him. This is love.
As we enter this Easter weekend, we have a unique opportunity as a church family. Many will walk through our doors who are new, searching, or unsure of what they believe. This is our moment to reflect the love of Christ in both word and action. Let's Love Like Jesus. Let's live out radical hospitality and meaningful connections by intentionally welcoming those around us. Sit with someone new at the pancake breakfast. Introduce yourself to someone you don't recognize in the foyer or your pew section. As the service concludes, take a step of courage, ask someone new how the service was, listen well, and offer to help them take a next step at SDBC.
Our prayer is that people would not just attend a service, but encounter Jesus through his people. And so, let's commit to praying as we approach Easter. Pray that the Holy Spirit would be at work in every heart, that those who do not yet know Jesus would come to know him as Saviour and Lord, and begin walking in new life. Pray that our gatherings would be marked by awe, wonder, worship, and joy as we reflect on the great sacrifice Jesus paid on Good Friday and celebrate our risen Saviour on Easter Sunday.
This Easter, may our church not only proclaim the message of Jesus, but embody it. This is love!
