Starfish Pack: We Are Six Months In!

05Mar, 2020

Our church is the South Delta branch of the Starfish Pack program. Like it says on our website, hundreds of children in B.C. go to school on Monday morning having had no food over the weekend. Starfish Pack was created in response to this need. We will be partnering with the Delta School District to bring meals to two elementary schools in Tsawwassen. It costs $575 to sponsor a child for one year of this program, which will provide a backpack each Friday throughout the school year filled with 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and some healthy snacks.

When we started doing Starfish Pack in October we were serving one elementary school and 10 students. We are now serving five elementary schools and 20 students! Our hope is to eventually be able to serve all of the elementary schools in South Delta who require help.

However, in order to be able to serve this many, we will need to expand our volunteer team. Each week we need teams of willing volunteers to come to church at 10:15AM on Thursday mornings, pack backpacks full of the food, and then deliver the backpacks to the schools. Packing will take place every week for the entirety of the school year. We also need volunteers to pick up the empty backpacks from the schools every Wednesday. If you are interested in serving on this team, you will be added to the rotation based on the dates that work for you.

Come visit the Starfish Team on Sunday at the Spotlight Table for more information or if you have any questions about serving with us! You can also email me any questions you may have.
