Songs for Lent: Lord from Sorrows Deep I Call (Psalm 42)

05Mar, 2026

Throughout Lent, we are sharing songs that teach us to cry out to God about the brokenness in our lives and to remember how Christ's body was broken to heal our brokenness. This week's Lent song is called Lord from Sorrows Deep I Call, and it is inspired by the words of Psalm 42.

The lyrics of this song express what we so often experience in our walk with God: questions without answers; grief we cannot explain or express; the fire we once had for God growing cold; pleading for God to take something painful away and it remains. And yet amidst all of these things, this song teaches us to continue to sing “O my soul, put your hope in God” because he remains faithful and trustworthy.

Let this song give you permission to honestly name your own sorrows in God’s presence and to rest in his comforting presence.
