As we shared this past Sunday, each week we want to share with you a song to help guide your thoughts and prayers through the Lent season. These songs are meant to help us to name the sin and brokenness in our lives so that we might be led to depend more on God and be drawn into wonder at how he chooses to be with us still.
This week's song is titled "Beautiful Things," and it is a very fitting song for Ash Wednesday, which we just observed yesterday. On Ash Wednesday, we remember God's sobering words to humanity that "we are dust and to dust we shall return," which helps us to acknowledge our frailty and how completely dependent we are upon God. Yet in this song, we are also reminded of what God can do with dust—that he makes beautiful things out of the dust and out of us. May this song give you hope amidst your ashes that God is still with you and bringing beauty out of the brokenness you see.
Also, if you are interested in having a guide to cultivate a deeper hunger for God throughout the Lent season, we recommend downloading the Lectio 365 app. The app includes daily prayers and Scripture readings for morning, midday, and evening. These are crafted specifically for the Lent season to help you pray through the areas of brokenness in your own life, remember God's forgiveness, and offer yourself to him each day.
