Refugee Sponsorship Info Night

10Jan, 2024

On November 26th, we shared with you our plan to support a refugee family, which we believe is a life-changing (and potentially life-saving) work that would result in a family of five being welcomed into a safe home here in Canada. The children in this family have not experienced safety for most of their lives, and we now have the opportunity to give them true refuge and safety by God's help. We are truly thankful for this opportunity to love like Jesus in a tangible way.

We also have some updates for you since our last presentation. Our application with the Christian and Missionary Alliance has now been completed and submitted to the government. We may need to wait a few more months to officially be approved as a sponsoring church, but things are progressing well for now. Please pray that this process will result in official approval soon.

If you missed our presentation in November, we invite you to join us for an info session on January 25th at 7PM in the chapel. We will share more details about this work and how you can partner with us in it. Even if you've already attended the presentation in November, you will want to attend this info session on January 25th because our missionary who has been sharing life and sharing Jesus with this refugee family will be providing more details than last time and you will have opportunities to ask questions that you may have related to this work. We will also spend some time in prayer at the end of the session because we believe prayer is one of the most important steps in this whole process.

Moreover, we still need people to join our core team that is providing leadership for this work and leading the charge in doing the leg work to help the refugee family settle in a new home when they arrive. As you might imagine, there are so many things that are involved in starting a new life in a totally foreign country. We will need to form a plan to support the family well. Please consider joining this team and click here to let us know if you're interested. Furthermore, if you would like to give toward this initiative, you can give online and use the drop-down menu to select "Refugee Sponsorship Fund," or drop off a cheque with a note clearly indicating that the cheque is for the Refugee Sponsorship Fund.

Please note that our "Donor Designated Fund" policy requires that the spending of a donor designated fund (like the Refugee Sponsorship Fund) be confined to its approved programs and projects. Each contribution received for such a fund will be used as restricted with the understanding that when the need for such a program or project has been met, or cannot be completed for any reason as determined by the Board of Elders, the remaining restricted contributions will be used where most needed.
