Our Senior Scene ministry started in the early 90s and has grown from "a cup of tea and a sweet," to a full luncheon with songs of praise and worshipful messages that often challenge our faith. We have heard many stories of extremely difficult life situations. We are blessed each month by those who are willing to share their stories and testimonies of how God is working in their lives.
Many who attend these luncheons live alone so this is an opportunity for seniors to fellowship together, learn more about each others lives, and, most importantly, have someone listen to their history and the challenges they have had. To be able to tell each other how Jesus helps us through trials and tribulations is an encouragement.
God sent the Holy Spirit to comfort us (2 Corinthians 1:3-5), so that we can share comfort to those going through similar situations. As I walk around during these luncheons welcoming guests, I love the hum of conversations and the laughter that fills the room. Hearing about newly invited friends, old friends returning, and acquaintances being renewed fills my heart.
Behind the scenes is a faithful team who plans, decorates, prepares, and serves graciously not only the seniors attending but also our church staff. Many of us on this team have been involved since Senior Scene's inception. Much love, joy, laughter, and even a few tears are shared as we serve our Lord using gifts and talents he has blessed us with. Indeed the spirit of radical hospitality is evident as we serve our seniors.
Make sure to invite a friend and join us for the last lunch of the season next Tuesday, May 21st at 11:30AM, before we take a break for summer. We will gather together again on September 17th.
