The Global Missions Team (GMT) is committed to expanding and participating in Kingdom work within the five pillars of missions focus. Dusty Sandals, which partners with several organizations that serve marginalized people groups in north India and Nepal, has recently been accepted for support by SDBC as it meets several of these pillars, namely church planting and bible translation, leadership development and educational activities, and disaster relief.
Dusty Sandals provides biblical resources in the languages of major local people groups, both in print and online. Working with its partners in north India and Nepal, it provides training and support for 140 indigenous evangelists serving unreached areas. This includes being equipped with bibles, gospel tracts, bicycles, motorbikes, sleeping bags, and other tools to reach remote towns and villages where the gospel has been rarely heard.
Education is being provided through its partner, Konnect Foundation, to over 1,000 marginalized children in north India from the Musahar community (or rat-eating caste) whose parents are migrant workers and unable to afford basic school supplies. Training is also provided to young women in tailor skills, basic life skills, business management, and how to open a bank account, with the goal to start at-home businesses.
This past year in Uttar Pradesh alone, more than 300 Christians have been arrested and 85 are still in prison. Dusty Sandals is supporting its partners by providing financial assistance to these families who have lost their primary source of income.
A personal long-term goal of R.S., founder of Dusty Sandals, is to complete a prayer walk along the entire 2,500 kilometres of the Ganges River, connecting with people along India's most sacred waterway. Throughout the journey, R.S. has experienced remarkable hospitality from Hindu priests, Muslims, and Christians alike receiving chai, meals, and places to sleep, including a night in a hut shared with a priest and cow.
Please pray for the launch of the Hindi Study Bible in a couple of months; that it will be a great resource and blessing to the church in India and Nepal. Pray for those being persecuted and imprisoned for their faith and for needed provision in their families. Also pray for safe travels as pastors and evangelists travel into remote villages in India and Nepal to share the gospel.
