Missionary Update: Don & Lorraine Karsgaard

24Sep, 2020

This week we get to hear from Don and Lorraine Karsgaard about their life and ministry during this season.

What is your current location and missions work?
We are located in Loreto, Baja Sur, Mexico, which is about a 20 hour drive from San Diego, down the Baja. Loreto is on the east side of the Baja, on the shores of the Sea of Cortez. Loreto has a population today of about 20,000 people, and when we arrived here in 2004 there were about 12,000 people. The city has really grown and, with that in mind, there have been many opportunities to assist in the growth of the churches and the development of even more churches. When we arrived in Loreto there were eight small evangelical churches and today we have 16. This is good news because in many other areas where there has been a population increase, the evangelical churches have not been able to keep up with their cities growth.

How is God working in and through you during this unique and challenging season?
Our ministries, as most people know, have been in the churches throughout the State of Baja Sur, in the prisons in Santa Rosalia, and in the capital city of La Paz. However, due to COVID-19, we have had to limit ourselves to helping just the pastors in Loreto.

How have you been impacted by COVID-19?
COVID-19 has created many problems with regards to the churches, pastors, and ourselves, by limiting many of the activities that we have all been doing for years. But it has given us the opportunity to show the love of God in action, by caring for people and supporting pastors financially so they can keep up their pastoral activities, even though the churches were not allowed to have public services for over three months.

How can we pray for you?
Please pray that the doors will open again to us in the prisons, and that the pastors, especially, will be kept healthy while visiting so many people during this most difficult time. During these visits many people have asked for bibles. Pray that many will become believers as they now read them.

Please remember to keep Don and Lorraine in your prayers this week as they continue to faithfully serve in Mexico. You can email encouragement to them by clicking here.
