Meet Our SDBC Elders: Jason Uher

30Jun, 2021

This week we hear from Jason Uher! Follow along as he outlines how long he has served as an elder and what originally prompted him to become an elder. We are blessed to have Jason as an SDBC board member!

How long have you attended SDBC and how long have you served on the Board of Elders?
I have attended SDBC with my wife, Suzanne, and my daughters, Abby and Mary (Grierson), for seven years and I have just completed my first year as an elder.

What was it that prompted you to join the Board of Elders?
I had been asked to join the board a few times but the timing was never right for me. Last year when I was approached, I prayerfully considered the decision with my wife and felt it was the right time for me to serve in this way.

What is your specific role on the board?
Right now, I serve on the nominating committee.

What does it mean for you, personally, to be a part of the Board of Elders at SDBC?
It is a great honour to serve in this way and I do not take that responsibility lightly. It is a humbling experience to sit on a board with so many godly, experienced men and I am thankful to be a part of the board in this season. I look forward to seeing what God has in store for our church.

How does being on the board both challenge and encourage you in your life and walk of faith?
Being on the board at SDBC has been rewarding so far. But an area that I am challenged with, or maybe inspired by, is being around this group of men who continually challenge me spiritually. This team of men loves the Lord and they love the church. It is clearly evident by listening to each one of them speak. Each one has a rich history at SDBC, and I am challenged spiritually to continually check my heart and motives. I love the different dynamics as we interact as a team and love the diversity of heart each man brings. We don't always see things the same way and that is a great strength. The beauty in it comes from seeing how we work through the differences in a godly way to a resolution. My life and walk are greatly influenced by interaction with these guys because each one models what love and Christian leadership should look like. Proverbs 27:17 says, "Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another;" this is what these men do.

Please remember to pray for Jason as he serves the church as a member of the board. You can email encouragement to Jason by clicking here.
