As followers of Jesus, we know most of our opportunities to worship God happen outside of Sunday mornings. For example, Our daily prayer life can and should be worship. Our time spent with Jesus and learning from his word can and should be worship. Our response to God's power in Creation can and should be worship. Our wonder and awe of God's grace and love can and should be worship. Our thoughts can be worship! Our work can be worship! Our play can be worship! It's true, we can and should be doing all things to the glory of God. This is the life of worship that I believe, models the life Jesus lived.
But back to Sunday…Sunday IS a special day. It is a day that is set apart as Sabbath. It is a time each week when we commit to the action of worshipping, not alone, but along with the church—the body of Christ. On Sunday, we heed the call and the command to gather together in God's presence, united in Christ, to glorify him and serve one another. We do this in many tangible ways, but most commonly we worship God through learning from the scriptures, singing songs of praise, and being in intentional relationship (fellowship) with one another.
Did you know, on any given Sunday at SDBC, there are 50 volunteers actively serving the church family in some capacity? Friends, this is incredible! This is an act of worship in itself! In the worship ministry alone (those that serve on a music team, a tech team, a camera/livestream team, an a/v team, or other) there are an average of 20-25 serving EVERY Sunday. Whenever I get asked about my job or work, or how things are going at church, my answer is always quick to include how incredible our team is, and what an honour it is to get to serve along with such humble and gifted people.
So here is my thought…perhaps you have been wondering how you could plug in to opportunities to worship Jesus and serve the church on a Sunday. Perhaps you have been thinking about using your gifts, talents, and passions to serve specifically on an SDBC Sunday worship team.
I don't want to let those thoughts or promptings pass by. There ARE opportunities to get involved! If God is calling you to grow in your gifts and serve, specifically in the area of worship ministry, it would be wonderful to explore those opportunities with you. The following are just a few of the ways you could serve and worship:
- on a Worship Team (serve with your musical gifts);
- on a Sound/Audio Team (serve with your technical and musical interests);
- on a Visuals/Tech Team (serve with some computer skills, laser focus, and a servant heart!); or
- on a Camera/Video Team (serve artistically with a camera or as part of the video switching team).
Thank you, church family! Perhaps you could pray about joining a team! Click the button below to email me, or visit the Spotlight Table on Sunday. The Worship Ministry will be there after the service to get the conversation started and provide information and future training on how and where you might be able to serve.
All the best,
Jayson
