Separation or divorce is a painful experience. But you do not have to walk that path alone. DivorceCare is a Christian program for people walking through separation or divorce, and we will be hosting this 13-week, video-based series this fall, starting September 10th.
DivorceCare is a safe, welcoming place where people understand the difficult emotions and challenges of separation and divorce. Over thirteen weeks, you'll find support as you learn what to expect in the days ahead and how to navigate your healing journey. Since separation and divorce can be messy and confusing, you'll learn helpful ways of coping with the challenges and navigating relationships—and gain solid support each step of the way.
At the weekly DivorceCare meetings, you will view videos featuring respected counsellors, teachers, and healthcare professionals, who will cover divorce and recovery topics such as how to manage divorce-related emotions such as loneliness, anxiety, bitterness, anger, and grief; how to cope with the changes in your life and relationships; the importance of forgiveness; and how to navigate legal and financial issues. After the video, there will be small group discussions providing a time to share, receive support, and apply what you learned in the video. You will receive a book to take home (cost is $30 to be paid at the first session) filled with valuable exercises for navigating your personal grieving process.
We will also be hosting DivorceCare for Kids (DC4K) which is designed for children aged 5-12. This is a special group to help children heal from the hurt caused by the separation or divorce of their parents. At our weekly DC4K meeting, kids will make friends with other kids and learn how to understand what they feel and the things they are going through. Best of all, children will learn how God's love can strengthen them and help turn tears to hope and joy!
Our DC4K group will meet weekly at the same time the parents attend the DivorceCare group. We will combine games, crafts, activities, music, and video dramas to create a fun atmosphere where children feel comfortable and accepted. They will look forward to each time their DC4K family gets together.
Sessions will take place at SDBC on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8PM, starting September 10th and will run until December 3rd.
