AGM 2020 Update

21Sep, 2020

On behalf of the elder's board at SDBC, I would like to thank everyone who was able to participate in our AGM this year. Due to the current restrictions on gatherings, our meeting was delayed from its normal time in the spring and we ended up meeting both in person and through a live stream on September 15th. This was new for all of us and I want to give a special thank you to the staff who put in many extra hours to ensure we had a successful meeting. I am grateful that all the special resolutions that the board presented were affirmed by those who participated. Our new bylaws are now in line with the updated Societies Act and are updated to reflect how we conduct matters at SDBC. I am also pleased that we have two new elders joining the board: Jason Uher and Josh Dyck. We believe both men will prove to be great contributors to the work of the board.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank Peter Grierson, Terry Weatherly, and Greg Hislop who are finishing their time on the board. All three have served on the board faithfully and we have experienced many significant changes over the years together. They will be missed but I do hope that God grants them rest as they take some time away from the responsibilities of being on the board and that God shows them where he is leading them for this next season. If you have an opportunity, please express your thanks to each of these men. They have all spent countless hours, faithfully and joyfully, serving God's church and their contribution will be a blessing to SDBC for many years to come.

In this unique time in the life of our community, I believe we recognize a little more that we all need the hope that Jesus desires we all would experience. We will continue to look for new ways to serve and connect with our community so that many more may come into relationship with Jesus and his people. How we do this will need to change, but we know that it is God at work in our hearts and in the hearts of those he is drawing to himself.

Philippians 4:7: And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
