Worshipping and Connecting in a Digital Format

main image

This past Sunday we shifted to using a streaming platform for our Sunday morning service. Shifting to this streaming platform will allow us an opportunity to digitally gather together at 10AM on Sundays for a live stream of our morning service. The platform includes some unique features. We are able to connect via chat as a church community, request prayer from one of our digital service hosts, and engage in giving through a link at the top of the window. Most importantly, it brings us all together for our morning service to worship and connect in a digital format. The link for our live stream platform is https://southdelta.online.church/. This link will be easily accessible on the main page of our website and through all of our social media channels. We are looking forward to worshipping together on Sundays! And if you do miss our Sunday morning service, we will post the online service for anyone to watch following 10AM.

This past Sunday, due to COVID-19 mitigation strategies regarding public gatherings, online streaming services hit record breaking numbers across all platforms and sites, which caused a number of streaming problems. This week, internet providers and streaming platforms are working to bolster infrastructure in order to facilitate a smooth streaming experience for people. We noticed this past Sunday that our chat feature was not syncing properly and many people experienced lag. We also noticed some people were not able to make their screen go full size. We are hoping the chat feature will run smoothly this coming Sunday. For the full screen issue, you may need to first make sure that your browser window is full screen (not a smaller window) and then try hitting full screen in the streaming platform. That seems to be the best workaround. If you experienced any other problems, please email us as we continue to create a meaningful digital worship service.

We miss gathering together physically, but joining in our live stream on Sunday morning at 10AM provides a fantastic connection point for all of us as we move forward dealing with COVID-19 as a church. We are planning to open our chat feature at 9:45AM with a countdown and background music playing until the service begins at 10AM. After the service, the chat feature will remain open providing an opportunity for people to connect just like after church on a Sunday morning. We can't wait to worship with you this coming Sunday morning at 10AM!

Q&A with Pastor Paul will take place over Zoom tomorrow at 4PM. We look forward to sharing a short devotional of encouragement, answering any questions you may have related to our church during the current situation around COVID-19, and spending a bit of time praying.

Please download the Zoom app on your phone, iPad, or computer to prepare for this online gathering. You can go to the app store to download ZOOM Cloud Meetings on your mobile devices, or you can download it on your computer by visiting this page, then click on the download button under "Zoom Client Meetings."

Once the app is downloaded, you can join the meeting tomorrow at 4PM by clicking this link. If you're unsure of how this works, you can watch this tutorial video and if you still can't get on Zoom, please email Mary Grierson for assistance.

If you have a set of headphones or earphones, it would be better to use them for the meeting, but if you don't have any, don't worry; the app will work fine using your device's speakers. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Community Amidst Our Current Reality

main image

With the current situation around COVID-19 and the comprehensive measures taken by our province and by the federal government to minimize the transmission of the virus, we are experiencing different lives than what we have grown accustomed to. Our social contact has been significantly limited, and many services and businesses have closed their doors indefinitely until things get better. As Christians, we believe that things will get better even when we go through what seems like the darkest of times. Our very faith depends on a belief in the resurrection, which means that God is powerful enough to bring a dead person back to life. If God can raise the dead, he can surely bring us out of these challenging times. Let's not lose hope; let's continue to place our trust in our powerful God. If you haven't already, I encourage you—especially as you face physical, social, and financial challenges—to read Philippians 4:6-7 and James 1:2-4; our staff went through these passages together, and we found them to be good reminders of how we must move forward in times like these.

In light of recent government restrictions and regulations, we are actively participating in minimizing the transmission of the virus in our community. Most of our rentals and regular gatherings at the church have been cancelled or postponed until further notice. We have also shifted our regular workflow and have closed our office physically. Our office hours will remain the same, M-TH; 9AM-4PM, with phone lines still open, but with staff working more remotely. The drop box for giving will remain open during office hours. Please check our website for frequent updates.

We're also working on virtual gatherings hosted online in a time of social isolation. Using technology that is available to us, we want to help our community groups and ministries to provide virtual gatherings using video conferencing platforms. These gatherings will include bible studies, prayer meetings, and Q&A sessions. All you need is a smartphone, tablet, or a computer to join these virtual gatherings in the comfort of your home. Our first virtual gathering will be on March 25th (Wednesday) at 4PM. You can click on this link at 4PM on March 25th and you will be able to access a Q&A session with some of our staff and ministry leaders (use Meeting ID: 711 547 610). I will share a short devotional, we will answer any questions you may have during this time, and we will spend some time praying for our church and our community. Please join us for this virtual gathering. If you have any questions on how you can join this online gathering, please call our church office during office hours (M-TH; 9AM-4PM) or email Mary Grierson, our Community Life Coordinator.

I miss you all very much. I wish we could be together on Sundays, but I am also thankful that we have the technology to help us connect even in times like this. May God protect you and lead you; may he speak truth to you and comfort you.
