Salt Spring Island 2018

21Jun, 2018

This summer will be the 21st trip that our youth group will make to Salt Spring Island for our week-long missions trip. Salt Spring is a trip that has impacted many lives over the years. You can talk to anyone who has been on the trip and hear about how they have been impacted by being a part of it.

As I write this, I am reminded of what one of the teens said about last year's trip during our final meeting. She said that Salt Spring is a time where she can come, get away from the busyness of life, serve others, and grow in her relationship with God. I think that sums up the trip so well. We can often spend our days being so busy that we can neglect our relationship with God. The Salt Spring trip is an opportunity for students to explore what it means to be a Christian or grow in their relationship with Him. We do this through morning devotions, teaching sessions, and worship nights. It also allows students to put their faith into action by going out as a community to serve people on the Island and show the love of Christ to them.

Jesus was once asked, "What is the greatest commandment in the law?" Jesus responded by saying, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself" (Matthew 22:37-39). This is what we try to do at Salt Spring. We aim to love God by studying His word, worshipping Him, and glorifying Him in our work. We aim to love our neighbour by helping those in need on Salt Spring. Whether that means weeding, chopping firewood, or shovelling dirt, we want to put the love of God on display for the people of Salt Spring.

Our trip this year is from Saturday, June 30th to Saturday, July 7th. I would like to ask you to pray for the team that is going to Salt Spring this year. Some of the students are exploring faith and others have been Christians for a long time. Pray that God would draw students to a relationship with Him and pray that students would grow in their faith. We also meet a lot of people on Salt Spring as we work for them. Pray that we would have conversations with the locals that would cause them to explore faith in Christ and that they would see God's love on display. Finally, pray that in all we do on Salt Spring Island, we are glorifying God in it.
