Growing Together in the Knowledge of God

22Apr, 2021

Young adulthood is one of the most important times in our lives. It is the time that many will move out of their parents' houses, go off to university, and start their careers. Unfortunately, it is also the time that many will fall away from their faith. Young adulthood varies so much in that it consists of people graduating from high school, attending university, graduating from university, working in their careers, single, married, and everything in between!

Our goal with SDBC Young Adults is to provide a community of faith for all young adults so that when big questions arise, or people are not feeling connected or supported in their faith, they have a community of people they can turn to and grow alongside. Week-to-week we have different people sharing devotionals, testimonies, and anything else they feel like God may be calling them to share. We're a group of peers helping each other grow in our faith through mutual experience and community.

For me personally, Young Adults is such an important community because it's somewhere I can go to be filled. There's such a range in ages that makes up our young adults and it's so cool to see what each person brings to the group. We're able to connect weekly on Zoom and our small group makes it so that we're able to dive deep into whatever topic we're discussing. It's been such a blessing to have this group of people in my life during this last year and I'm so excited to see the group grow and see where God takes us!

Here are some things a couple of our members have to say about the Young Adults community:

"My experience with Young Adults started fairly recently but I've been absolutely loving it. It's been great getting to connect with and bounce my thoughts off of other young adults. We're a small group, but I think we've really been able to delve into God's Word together. I feel like it's incredibly important, now more than ever, to have programs like ours to help young adults stay connected." – Daniel Nottingham

"I'm so glad that our Young Adults program has started up again. I love the tight-knit community that is already forming. I would absolutely love to have a bigger attendance, but our smaller group is having a great time learning about God together!" – Troy Weatherly

Right now, we're meeting weekly on Tuesdays at 7PM via Zoom and are working through a series on RightNow Media. We encourage everyone who joins to bring topics and ideas to study and dive into. God can work through everyone's experiences and stories, whether it's from a book study, a deep dive into certain verses, or through sharing a devotional of something that God's doing or teaching you in your life! That's the foundation of this group, that we can grow together in the knowledge of Christ through personal experiences. If you are a young adult looking for a community, feel free to check out our Instagram @southdeltaYA or email Kaitlyn Shipowich. We can't wait to see you there!
