SDBC's 60th Anniversary
At the beginning of the year, we announced our plans to celebrate our 60th anniversary this fall. South Delta Baptist Church was planted by Ladner Baptist Church sixty years ago, and the first service was held on October 25th, 1959. God has blessed us tremendously since then and we were able to enjoy His abounding grace and love. In order to share this love of Christ with our community, we made plans to bless the community as the Lord has blessed us. Our goal is to raise $60K to celebrate 60 years!

A portion of the funds that we raise will be going towards giving youth and children a better space at SDBC that is conducive to learning God's truth in a safe and fun environment. Our facility opened in 1988 and both the youth centre and children's wing are ready for a refresh.
"Providing children their most basic needs--healthy meals for those who need our help."
Hundreds of children in B.C. go to school on Monday morning having had no food over the weekend. Starfish Pack was created in response to this need. We will be partnering with the Delta School District to bring meals to two elementary schools in Tsawwassen. These schools have been identified by the school district as having families whose children sometimes go without nutritional meals over a normal two-day weekend. We will be helping to provide children their most basic needs--healthy meals for those who need our help.
It will cost $525 to sponsor a child for one year of this program, which will provide a backpack each Friday throughout the school year filled with 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and some healthy snacks. This will have a huge impact on a child's life.
"Teachers have reported improvements in children’s reading skills, math skills, ability to focus, and to do partner work."
Our tutoring project will see us partnering with the City of Delta (Awesome After School) and Vancouver Urban Ministries to provide an after school program, which will include Orton-Gillingham tutoring. Awesome After School already takes place at the South Delta Recreation Centre, and we will be adding our tutoring services for free to their program. The Orton-Gillingham approach has helped many children improve their literacy, so we hope to make this quality supplemental education accessible to children who experience learning challenges due to dyslexia and/or other learning disabilities.
For more information on any of these projects, please email Mary Grierson.
On Friday, October 25th, we will be hosting a Celebration Banquet at Tsawwassen Springs to celebrate our 60th Anniversary. Our evening will start at 6PM and will include a buffet dinner, live music, and a silent auction to raise funds for our 60th Anniversary Project.
Tickets for this banquet are $55 each and space is limited. Purchase your tickets by clicking the button below. Ticket sales will close October 1st, and refunds will only be issued up to 30 days before the event (September 25th).
